I've heard so many good things about this restaurant and was sadly disappointed. We had the cheese mushroom appetizer, a filet mignon, and a prime rib. The mushrooms just tasted like they were soaked in cream and processed cheese. The filet was bland and the prime rib was over 50% fat. The baked potato was topped with cheap cheese and a Bacos-like substance. The veggies tasted like a microwaved frozen variety bag. If you like processed food you will probably enjoy your meal. If you are used to fresh food, try a different restaurant.

My husband and I visited Silas's for dinner tonight. What a wonderful dinner. I ordered the Sirloin steak and he had the surf and turf kabobs. Both meals were amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly and literally melted in my mouth. Service was great and prices were more than reasonable considering the ambience, quality and quantity of food provided. We will surely come back to Silas's next time we are in St Pete!

We have been coming to Silas's every time we vacation in the St. Pete area. We got the poppers for an appetizer but found the cheese a bit overpowering. The Ahi tuna on a bed of spinach was very good. Turkey reuben was also good. The barbeque chicken was flavorful. Solid choice without any bad surprises.

Stepping back in time is right! All a bit dirty, many flies. :( Three colleagues and I went there for lunch. My shrimp was alright (the remoulade was awesome!). Everyone else clearly felt the same - it's good enough I guess. One nice thing was we got to sit looking out over the boat dock because we there almost completely alone.

Not sure if some upgrades have been made since previous reviews, but Silas has been in business for 31 years and there are a few good reasons for it - good service, good atmosphere, and good food. We asked our hostess for a waterfront seat, and although they were all reserved, she and the manager on duty made sure we still had a wonderful waterfront view. This was a taste of things to come. The menus are mock newspapers detailing some of St. Pete's history (the menu is inside). Details are provided on Silas, the inspiration for the name of the restaurant. It's an entertaining read. The menu itself is somewhat limited in variety, but plentiful on how the items are prepared. There's some standard fare (burgers, chicken tenders) and more upscale fare (lo' country boil, a 20 oz. Porterhouse, prime rib). In our party of four, we ordered the jalepeno bacon wrapped shrimp, a chicken caesar salad, a burger, the Silas Seafood combo, and the flat iron center cut. Each meal includes a special treat to cleanse the palate (and to provide a bit of charm and refreshment). Everyone's meals were prepared exactly as ordered and it all tasted great. The steak was tender, juicy, and flavorful without the aid of sauce, but it was a little small for the price. The seafood combo was a nicely portioned helping of grouper and shrimp with fries. You do not pick your own sides - each meal has a side that comes with that particular dish. The pretzel bread is decent, and a side salad or soup can be added to most meals for $1.99. The service was impeccable, and the server was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. She took great care of us and was very attentive. All in all, we will definitely be back to visit this fine establishment upon our next excursion to St. Pete Beach. I'd recommend Silas to anyone with kids, as kids eat free between 5:30 - 6:00 pm.

Let's do the time warp, again!!! This place was like stepping back in time to the 70's. The decor and atmosphere was a hoot. Even though this is a steakhouse, it is very casual so bringing your kids or wearing shorts would be totally OK. Along with the decor, the menu is also stuck in the past. However, the food was OK. The coconut shrimp was the highlight for me. The steaks were fine but nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't go back here, but I wouldn't want to tell people to not give it a try. There was no wait at all and the prices were reasonable. My husband thinks it should be 2 star, but I am feeling generous and going with 3.
Good prime rib and excellent tuna. Service good. Went before it got to busy at night.

We found this place by randomly driving up route 699 and stopping. We had no idea where to eat, and we didn't want to fire up the Yelp! iPhone app. We arrived on a Sunday evening about 8:00P. The place was dead, but when we were seated in the back there were about 5 tables going. The greet/wait staff was really friendly and sat us with a waterside view immediately. The menus are kind of cool as they are printed on newspaper stock and the front and back had stories about the area, mainly focused on this one guy who looked like Santa Claus and basically lived his life as a simpleton on the keys. My wife ordered the prime rib and I had the strip steak and a salad. My "Bayou" salad was basically a romaine based salad with a few garden vegetables, some deep fried tortilla crumbles, and this wonderful lemon-poppy seed vinegarette. The dressing was awesome and the onlhy place I've had something even remotely similar is when my mother in law makes her signature dressing. The watiress brought outa loaf of pretzel bread with mustard seed butter, which was interesting but just OK for my palate. After salads and before our entrees were served, the waitress brought out a tiny serving of some house made sorbet. This was AWESOME. The sorbet of the night was berry-key lime and it was delicious. I could have eaten a big serving of it, however it's just served to cleanse the palate I guess. Either way, it was served in an ice cream cone that couldn't have been more than 2 inches tall! (Very cool..) My wife's prime rib was out of this world good. It had great flavor and the au jus on the side was terriffic. My steak was average. I was actually expecting more from a place that said that they hand cut and self aged their steaks. For 12 ounces of hand cut, in house aged, I was expcecting a smaller in area, but thicker steak. This was pretty thin and though cooked pretty much to order (medium), had a huge 2-3 ounce peice of solid fat / grissle on the end. Now, dont get me wrong, I likes me some fat on my steak but that was just a little too much. The steak reminded me of a Texas Roadhouse quality steak. Not bad, but unremarkable. Baked potatoes were cooked to perfection, and served witha sour cream, chive, and butter mixture. Very good! Our waitress was very nice and gave us some pointers for the area for things to do that late on a Sunday in the off season. Tip: If you are carrying a few extra pounds, ask for the table. I'm not a huge guy and the booths were tight. All in all, I'd probably go back and if I were a seafood person I probably would have enjoyed myself that much more, but this applies to just about any restaurant on the Gulf coast. The place has enough going for it, and with the way my wife raved about the prime rib, it's getting four stars.

Ordered the bast mahi ive ever had with spinach and Parmesan sauce, it was truly phenomenal! The decor was fun, but not really in line with the prices. It felt like TGI Fridays decor, but prices were more than double that. Probably the most casual $80 meal I've had. If I were rating solely on the entree it would be an easy 5 but factoring in the poor wine selection, so-so appetizer, and desparity between prices and decor I would say it's above average but not stellar. Service was good. Not sure why their only outdoor seating was in front overlooking the parking lot rather than the harbor out back. I would go back, but not before trying some other places in the area first just for variety.

Typically my reviews are lower than the Yelp average but I am going against my norm here. I used to vacation with my family in St Pete when I was younger and this was one of the restaurants we would go to. I always remembered it as being good, but my wife and I had a phenomenal experience here. My wife and I had actually vacationed here about 4 years ago and we were very surprised at the amount of places that are out of business here. The strip mall/area that Silas's is located in is virtually empty now. Obviously the area has been hit hard by the recession. Very sad to see as I have a lot of great family memories here and now my wife and I have come to St Pete Beach together twice. On to the restaurant experience. We walked in and requested a window table by the bay and they gave us that. We ordered the mussels diablo as an app and they were very good. Mussels aren't something we order regularly but these were very tasty. They were sauteed in a spicy marinara sauce with mushrooms. Prior to your meal, they serve you salad and bread. I had a caesar salad and liked it a lot. My wife had the house salad that comes with their poppy seed vinaigrette dressing. She gave me a bite and it was awesome. They even serve you their pretzel bread which was definitely better than your boring dinner rolls. It comes with a mustard seed type butter which is different and good. Then, they give you a raspberry sorbet before your meal to cleanse your palate. This is the only place I have ever been to that does this. For my meal, I had the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and my wife had the King Crab Legs. My meal was awesome - the tuna was sushi grade and cooked perfectly. It came over spinach and was served with a side of fried rice. I enjoyed it a lot. My wife loved her King Crab Legs - she gave me a bite and the meat was sweet, succulent and tender. It was extraordinary. For dessert, we split their chocolate peanut butter pie. It is sort of like a peanut butter mousse with drizzled chocolate. This is a bold statement but it is easily the best dessert I have had in my entire life. It is also more than enough for two people to split. This dining experience was also great because the service was outstanding and both the chef and manager came out to see how our meal was. You could tell that they genuinely appreciated our business and really cared about what we thought of our meal. This is such a simple concept that so many restaurants fail at these days. It was so evident that they appreciated their customer's business. It was such an enjoyable dining experience. If you are in St Pete Beach and looking to have a good meal, I would strongly urge you to give this place a shot. The food is awesome, service is spectacular and they will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great meal...

Sila's Dents has been another long-time staple for St. Pete's Beach. The original burned down (I miss that incarnation) and since been reborn water-side. Inside, it looks like you'd expect any waterfront eatery in Florida with Silas memorabilia everywhere (for those that don't know...he was a famous crab-key hermit for which we get the Silas name-sake). Food overall is pretty average. The steaks are, well, OK. They won't win any awards unless competing against places like Outback. Their grouper reuben is an unusual dish, but, I must say well prepared and tastes better than it sounded. I would order it again as it wasn't too greasy and the kraut/dressing didn't mask the fried grouper flavor. Their cheesy, sausage soup is very good (when hot). Sometimes it doesn't come out at temperature and you need to tell them to reheat it. Oysters were fresh, sweet and tasted 'right from the ocean'. Hopefully this will remain consistent over time. Service is friendly when you walk in (I've only eaten there for lunch or transitioning to dinner). They were willing to go out of their way to let us order off their dinner menu (vs. lunch menu). The wait staff friendly, but as others have written, slow. Even when we were just one of a couple tables for an early lunch, it was still slow. Overall, a good place to eat (didn't find any cleanliness issues as I've seen on other reviews) but it's average overall. I'd go for their soup and oysters and even the grouper reuben. But otherwise, pretty ordinary. 3-stars as I'd go here again but wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Husband ordered burger med it was well done; called it a 1/2 lb - barely a qtr lb with oversized bun; burnt bacon. My son's chicken fingers over cooked and dry. "Famous" silsa cheezy mushrooms were canned mushrooms in sourcream with a dash of paprika!! Better today as left overs with some real cheddar cheese added!! If your looking solely for steaks, you'd be much better served by 1200 Chophouse a few blocks away. If you want a more rounded menu, have a large party, have kids in tow, want liquor drinks, want a view of some water, etc. then this is a good option. The restaurant is named after a hermit who lived a solitary life on a nearby barrier island, supposedly; not exactly an exciting story when you read it, but hey, it's better than nothing. Anyway, for a restaurant with steak house in the name, it's a very odd collection of mostly marine themed decorations with a diverse menu that includes some steaks. All of the food is decent. I wouldn't say there's any real standouts, but no losers either; good food, good prices, lots of seating (so often little to no wait), convenient to many of the beach resorts. If it's a warm summer month at a warm time of the day, although you're sacrificing the view, I would recommend against sitting at the three tables in the back right corner of the restaurant because that area gets uncomfortably warm. Food-wise, they do have Bearnaise sauce for your steak, and that's a mandatory item if my wife is going to dine somewhere that serves steak. They also know how to cook it pittsburgh style. I'm more of a seafood person and their "Low Country Boil" won't disappoint; it's a collection of various types of seafood in a big bucket. It includes things like crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatos and corn on the cob. It's not on their website for some reason, but is on the menu. Drink-wise, they have reasonable prices and they DO serve liquor drinks, which many restaurants around the beach don't.

Upon entering, I felt like this place is run by family, a family that does not want you to enter their home. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside in the patio next to the parking lot and she barked at us that it was reserved for a private party. This is completely reasonable that they would allow people to reserve it but when we walked in there were three people outside so it was not obvious that it was reserved or that it was being used by more than a few people. Then we walked inside to many empty tables. We asked for one by the water and we were snapped at once again that those were only for reservations. Okay, their house, their rules but again, there were many empty tables even by the windows leading me to believe that if we asked, we may be seated by a window. We ordered brie and gator as appetizers. The server said how great the gator is there. He brought it with no brie because he forgot that it had sold out. The gator had absolutely no taste except for fried. There could have been any white meat fried on the plate and it could have passed for gator. Then their was the magician. There is a magician that walks from table to table. I was there with three other people and we kept trying to avoid looking up at him as to not have him stop by our table. I had coconut shrimp, which came as dark and dingy as the inside of the restaurant. I gave two stars instead of one as my dining buddies enjoyed their steak more than I did my shrimp. We ordered a to go burger for our friend who stayed home and it took a really long time even though the restaurant was practically empty at that point. Not high on my list to return.

We saw many mixed reviews on Yelp, but because it was right across the street from our resort, we decided to see for ourselves. After eating there, we think that 3 stars is a little generous. I had to send my filet back. I ordered medium rare and it came well done. Both our baked potatoes were undercooked as well as the one that came with my replacement steak. The 2nd steak was cooked properly, was tender and had great flavor. The caesar salad was heavy on the anchovy flavor, had little pieces of Chinese noodles for croutons and the shredded parm was straight from Sam's Club. Strange. My wife's prime rib was cooked properly and tasted good but had some serious stringy tendon issues. They served a nice little mango sorbet in a cute little sugar cone before the main course and that was a pleasant surprise. I got a small black rock in my steak! The server said "are you sure it's not pepper?" and the manager said "I want to take this back to the kitchen." I didn't ask for an adjustment to the bill but none was offered either. You'd think that after overcooking my steak and almost chipping a tooth on a rock, the manager would have offered something!

Visiting for conference and had 7 to sit for dinner. Very accommodating and attentive. Bill was our server and was training a newbie. Both did an outstanding job with answering questions and addressing our needs. The $20 nightly special was a worthwhile choice. I had the blackened grouper sandwich. It was a little on the dry side, but the seasoning was delicious. Others had lobster tail, coconut shrimp, filet and there were no complaints and no leftovers. Black cow, key lime pie and fried cheese cake desserts completed the meal and were thoroughly enjoyed. The decor is a little tacky, in my opinion, but the live music was nice. The magician could be saved for the tables with children.

YES - Silas's Steakhouse gets a full five stars from me for being as good as it gets from start-to-finish! I wanted to go somewhere extra special for my birthday. So I asked my neighbors who've lived in the area longer than I have for a recommendation for a place that was casual dress but "posh" possibilities for food. I called for reservations and spoke to Edward. He was welcoming and helpful when I called. I asked for him when the five of us showed up for our reserved table. I told him what we would want for my special day and Edward did well by us because we were given great water view seating. Service was exceptional - just the right amount of attentiveness and friendliness, too. Each of us REALLY liked what we ordered: We started with coconut shrimp. Superb! For the main course, one of my dining partners ordered Fettucini Alfredo with shrimp. It looked so scrumptious it was hard to refrain from begging for a taste. I should have because there was plenty for her to take home. Another in my party ordered the "just enough" maple glazed salmon which came with two sides. He also got a side salad add on. A yummy bargain at $1.99 if memory serves. Our big guy ordered and was thoroughly satisfied with a GIGANTIC portion - prime rib done to perfection. My supposedly "just enough" ten ounce serving of prime rib was much bigger and also done to perfection, as was the remaining happy diner. The salt baked potatoes were large, hot and served exactly right. To make this celebration even brighter, the wait staff came and sang while serving my dessert of fantastic creme brulee - and that was on the house! The decor is more than interesting - chock full of history and plenty to captivate the eye. Furthermore, our table was greeted by a very friendly, attentive chef. Silas's Steakhouse gets the rare complete rave review. I love prime rib. At $16.99 for the "just enough" portion served au jus +creamy horseradish it's a bargain that I can indulge in more than once in a Blue Moon. I will plan on coming back again and again and again. We went to Silas Dents last year at this time on the first day we were here. And we went back two more times because we loved the place. This year we brought two friends along; my wife had been building up our dinner at Silas Dents for months. What we got was bad service, bad food, and worst of all bad drinks. My wife was so embarrassed. 1) Our Server didn't inform us about any of the specials. And she wasn't attentive at all. 2) We had to mix/spice up our own Bloody Mary's. 3) it seemed like the Prime Rib had been steamed because it was gray and tasteless. My wife had the Stone Crab and got the horseradish instead of the two Prime Rib entree's. In fact when they asked for Au Jus, the waiter returned with "Olive Juice," and she was proud to present it. Let me start with the good: Service was incredible. We had a server named Eddy who was incredibly accommodating and genuinely interested in serving us. That being said, however, the food was average. The Nachos were homemade, but rather bland. The Pretzel Bread was tasty but cold. The entrees improved our experience, or the most part. My Grouper Sandwhich was delicious; succulent and meaty (not fishy at all, very fresh). The Filet Mignon was very tasty, but a bit overcooked. The King Crab was soft, dull, and stringy (more the fault of the Crab than the chef, as it must travel several thousand miles from Alaska). A highlight: the staff apologized for the crab, and took it off the bill. Overall, a very average restaurant with a great server and spectacular views of the bay.

Visiting st Pete beach & decided to try this with my 9 year old. To sum it up, even by a child's standards the food was mediocre at best. I had the shrimp po' boy the shrimp was ok but the thick roll made it taste very dry while the lettuce & tomato tasted old & stale. The flavors just didn't work. My daughter ordered chicken fingers from the kids menu and while the portion size was generous, it didn't taste good enough to box the leftovers. I ordered her a v-strawberry daiquiri as a treat and it was just a slushy icy mess. The service was fine, but the server didn't ask why I only had a couple of bites of my dinner.

I'm a very picky person when it comes to restaurants but let me say that I loved everything about this place. From the cute little mason jars that they serve your drinks in to the food and the atmosphere. It really was good. I don't understand the negative reviews at all. The executive chef, Chuck, met us outside and handed out free appetizer cards, you can tell he loves his job, he even checked up on us multiple times throughout the night. The service was great, Kevin was our server and he was awesome - attentive and personable. The Food was FANTASTIC. I was in the mood for fish and chips but they weren't on the menu, when the executive chef, Chuck, came back to I had mentioned that I was looking for it and with no hesitation he said he would make it for me - and they were the best I've ever had. Fresh and tasty. My family also had great food as well. The atmosphere was great as well and the management cared about people's opinions. So that was awesome. I really recommend this place anytime you come into the area.

Silas Dent's was at one time the go-to place on St. Pete Beach for a nice, upscale atmosphere and some of the freshest seafood in the area. That was ten years ago. Now, the seafood is a couple days past prime, and the steaks aren't quite grade A. It's not that the place is bad, it's just mediocre. It's still a nice place and the staff is friendly, but you're not going to have memorable food. A shame, since that's what brings people back.

Service was awful. Went there 9PM on a Friday night, didn't even look busy. Sat outside on patio and only got water served first 15 minutes. Ordered the ahi tuna app and it was a little dry, not that much in portion. Server never came back for drink order, kept saying he'd be right back. Left 9 bucks on the table and left. Table beside us looked mad that the tab was wrong (same server). Will never go back.

Won't be headed back there soon. While the server was awesome, the appetizer took 30 minutes to appear. The "fully loaded potato" arrived uncut, unloaded, blah. My partner's "special," a "crusted Mahi," was obviously pre-frozen and tasted off--with kind of unpleasant results after we got home. The prime rib (ordered medium/rare) showed up dripping with blood and fatty.... Picturesque place, but atmosphere doesn't make up for mediocre food.

Our first jaunt of the year to St. Pete Beach and my travel companion and I wanted to try somewhere different. What a better way to find a new and exciting place than walking to the liquor store a few blocks down the road and keeping our eyes pealed for a place we hadn't visited before. I really don't understand why the reviews for Silas are not more positive. I had the coconut crusted grouper and my friend had the sesame salmon. Both dishes were excellent. The atmosphere was cool and relaxed. Our waiter, JP, was adorbs. We will certainly pay another visit to Silas's when we are back in St. Pete Beach!

Based on other Yelp reviews, I was expecting: 1. dirty 2. dated 3. mediocre service 4. great pretzel bread 5. slightly too expensive for what it is 6. great view of the water #1: our table and area was not dirty at all #2: not really -- felt similar to outback locations #3: our server and the one helping the next table over were both very attentive and helpful #4: "meh" - my family of four was offered 2 sticks of the pretzel bread. they are about the size of a large breadstick, hardly enough for 4 people to split. no more was offered. #5: slightly too expensive for what it was - check that. i'd say 10% too high. #6: we requested a good view during reservation and got it My wife's salmon was good, and I had the large shrimp platter, very good though at $18.50 with fries, again, slightly overpriced. Had we gone with the special of the day of course, my wife and I could have both had fajita entrees for a total of $14.99. So in all fairness, they do have some cheaper grub. Food was very good, and the view can be excellent. If you've never been, it's worth at least one visit.

I have lived in the area a few years. Until recently, the last 3 visits, the place was Awesome and I took everyone who came to eat there. No mas! Last night was the worst in both food and service. I said ahh maybe just a bad night last 2 times. 3 bad meals in a row there is no next time. Must have new Managers. The prices have moved up and the quality and prep AWFUL! The 9 oz sirloin was WELLLLLLL done and even charred on one side. Cooked so long iit shrunk to the size wide of silver dollar. Veggies soggy...Pretzel bread...nuff said! Outback here I come!

I am surprised to read the negative reviews because every time I'm in Florida, I make it a point to go to Silas even if I'm in Orlando or Fort Myers. This is just about the best steak I've ever ate in my entire life ! Cuts with a fork, medium-well and still juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The decor is quite original with antiques on the walls and all over the restaurant, including an old washer that reminds me of the one at my grandmother's summer house. We were lucky enough several times to be seated near the water and it's really nice. The menu is more than original, makes one think he's in New Orlean's ! With "taters" galore ! Awesome restaurant at a reasonable price. You have to give it a try ! Awesome !

I've heard so many good things about this restaurant and was sadly disappointed. We had the cheese mushroom appetizer, a filet mignon, and a prime rib. The mushrooms just tasted like they were soaked in cream and processed cheese. The filet was bland and the prime rib was over 50% fat. The baked potato was topped with cheap cheese and a Bacos-like substance. The veggies tasted like a microwaved frozen variety bag. If you like processed food you will probably enjoy your meal. If you are used to fresh food, try a different restaurant.

My husband and I visited Silas's for dinner tonight. What a wonderful dinner. I ordered the Sirloin steak and he had the surf and turf kabobs. Both meals were amazing. My steak was cooked perfectly and literally melted in my mouth. Service was great and prices were more than reasonable considering the ambience, quality and quantity of food provided. We will surely come back to Silas's next time we are in St Pete!

We have been coming to Silas's every time we vacation in the St. Pete area. We got the poppers for an appetizer but found the cheese a bit overpowering. The Ahi tuna on a bed of spinach was very good. Turkey reuben was also good. The barbeque chicken was flavorful. Solid choice without any bad surprises.

Stepping back in time is right! All a bit dirty, many flies. :( Three colleagues and I went there for lunch. My shrimp was alright (the remoulade was awesome!). Everyone else clearly felt the same - it's good enough I guess. One nice thing was we got to sit looking out over the boat dock because we there almost completely alone.

Not sure if some upgrades have been made since previous reviews, but Silas has been in business for 31 years and there are a few good reasons for it - good service, good atmosphere, and good food. We asked our hostess for a waterfront seat, and although they were all reserved, she and the manager on duty made sure we still had a wonderful waterfront view. This was a taste of things to come. The menus are mock newspapers detailing some of St. Pete's history (the menu is inside). Details are provided on Silas, the inspiration for the name of the restaurant. It's an entertaining read. The menu itself is somewhat limited in variety, but plentiful on how the items are prepared. There's some standard fare (burgers, chicken tenders) and more upscale fare (lo' country boil, a 20 oz. Porterhouse, prime rib). In our party of four, we ordered the jalepeno bacon wrapped shrimp, a chicken caesar salad, a burger, the Silas Seafood combo, and the flat iron center cut. Each meal includes a special treat to cleanse the palate (and to provide a bit of charm and refreshment). Everyone's meals were prepared exactly as ordered and it all tasted great. The steak was tender, juicy, and flavorful without the aid of sauce, but it was a little small for the price. The seafood combo was a nicely portioned helping of grouper and shrimp with fries. You do not pick your own sides - each meal has a side that comes with that particular dish. The pretzel bread is decent, and a side salad or soup can be added to most meals for $1.99. The service was impeccable, and the server was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. She took great care of us and was very attentive. All in all, we will definitely be back to visit this fine establishment upon our next excursion to St. Pete Beach. I'd recommend Silas to anyone with kids, as kids eat free between 5:30 - 6:00 pm.

Let's do the time warp, again!!! This place was like stepping back in time to the 70's. The decor and atmosphere was a hoot. Even though this is a steakhouse, it is very casual so bringing your kids or wearing shorts would be totally OK. Along with the decor, the menu is also stuck in the past. However, the food was OK. The coconut shrimp was the highlight for me. The steaks were fine but nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't go back here, but I wouldn't want to tell people to not give it a try. There was no wait at all and the prices were reasonable. My husband thinks it should be 2 star, but I am feeling generous and going with 3.

My daughter flew down here from NY and made reservations at Silas Dents for my Mother's Day Dinner. She wanted to enjoy the night life in St Pete Beach. We got "The Red carpet Treatment" from Paul- our server, and the table looking over the water.... The Baked Brie was fantastic! My daughter got surf & turf ( Filet and Crab Legs). We found this place by randomly driving up route 699 and stopping. We had no idea where to eat, and we didn't want to fire up the Yelp! iPhone app. We arrived on a Sunday evening about 8:00P. The place was dead, but when we were seated in the back there were about 5 tables going. The greet/wait staff was really friendly and sat us with a waterside view immediately. The menus are kind of cool as they are printed on newspaper stock and the front and back had stories about the area, mainly focused on this one guy who looked like Santa Claus and basically lived his life as a simpleton on the keys. My wife ordered the prime rib and I had the strip steak and a salad. My "Bayou" salad was basically a romaine based salad with a few garden vegetables, some deep fried tortilla crumbles, and this wonderful lemon-poppy seed vinegarette. The dressing was awesome and the onlhy place I've had something even remotely similar is when my mother in law makes her signature dressing. The watiress brought outa loaf of pretzel bread with mustard seed butter, which was interesting but just OK for my palate. After salads and before our entrees were served, the waitress brought out a tiny serving of some house made sorbet. This was AWESOME. The sorbet of the night was berry-key lime and it was delicious. I could have eaten a big serving of it, however it's just served to cleanse the palate I guess. Either way, it was served in an ice cream cone that couldn't have been more than 2 inches tall! (Very cool..) My wife's prime rib was out of this world good. It had great flavor and the au jus on the side was terriffic. My steak was average. I was actually expecting more from a place that said that they hand cut and self aged their steaks. For 12 ounces of hand cut, in house aged, I was expcecting a smaller in area, but thicker steak. This was pretty thin and though cooked pretty much to order (medium), had a huge 2-3 ounce peice of solid fat / grissle on the end. Now, dont get me wrong, I likes me some fat on my steak but that was just a little too much. The steak reminded me of a Texas Roadhouse quality steak. Not bad, but unremarkable. Baked potatoes were cooked to perfection, and served witha sour cream, chive, and butter mixture. Very good! Our waitress was very nice and gave us some pointers for the area for things to do that late on a Sunday in the off season. Tip: If you are carrying a few extra pounds, ask for the table. I'm not a huge guy and the booths were tight. All in all, I'd probably go back and if I were a seafood person I probably would have enjoyed myself that much more, but this applies to just about any restaurant on the Gulf coast. The place has enough going for it, and with the way my wife raved about the prime rib, it's getting four stars.

Ordered the bast mahi ive ever had with spinach and Parmesan sauce, it was truly phenomenal! The decor was fun, but not really in line with the prices. It felt like TGI Fridays decor, but prices were more than double that. Probably the most casual $80 meal I've had. If I were rating solely on the entree it would be an easy 5 but factoring in the poor wine selection, so-so appetizer, and desparity between prices and decor I would say it's above average but not stellar. Service was good. Not sure why their only outdoor seating was in front overlooking the parking lot rather than the harbor out back. I would go back, but not before trying some other places in the area first just for variety.

Typically my reviews are lower than the Yelp average but I am going against my norm here. I used to vacation with my family in St Pete when I was younger and this was one of the restaurants we would go to. I always remembered it as being good, but my wife and I had a phenomenal experience here. My wife and I had actually vacationed here about 4 years ago and we were very surprised at the amount of places that are out of business here. The strip mall/area that Silas's is located in is virtually empty now. Obviously the area has been hit hard by the recession. Very sad to see as I have a lot of great family memories here and now my wife and I have come to St Pete Beach together twice. On to the restaurant experience. We walked in and requested a window table by the bay and they gave us that. We ordered the mussels diablo as an app and they were very good. Mussels aren't something we order regularly but these were very tasty. They were sauteed in a spicy marinara sauce with mushrooms. Prior to your meal, they serve you salad and bread. I had a caesar salad and liked it a lot. My wife had the house salad that comes with their poppy seed vinaigrette dressing. She gave me a bite and it was awesome. They even serve you their pretzel bread which was definitely better than your boring dinner rolls. It comes with a mustard seed type butter which is different and good. Then, they give you a raspberry sorbet before your meal to cleanse your palate. This is the only place I have ever been to that does this. For my meal, I had the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and my wife had the King Crab Legs. My meal was awesome - the tuna was sushi grade and cooked perfectly. It came over spinach and was served with a side of fried rice. I enjoyed it a lot. My wife loved her King Crab Legs - she gave me a bite and the meat was sweet, succulent and tender. It was extraordinary. For dessert, we split their chocolate peanut butter pie. It is sort of like a peanut butter mousse with drizzled chocolate. This is a bold statement but it is easily the best dessert I have had in my entire life. It is also more than enough for two people to split. This dining experience was also great because the service was outstanding and both the chef and manager came out to see how our meal was. You could tell that they genuinely appreciated our business and really cared about what we thought of our meal. This is such a simple concept that so many restaurants fail at these days. It was so evident that they appreciated their customer's business. It was such an enjoyable dining experience. If you are in St Pete Beach and looking to have a good meal, I would strongly urge you to give this place a shot. The food is awesome, service is spectacular and they will go above and beyond to make sure you have a great meal...

Sila's Dents has been another long-time staple for St. Pete's Beach. The original burned down (I miss that incarnation) and since been reborn water-side. Inside, it looks like you'd expect any waterfront eatery in Florida with Silas memorabilia everywhere (for those that don't know...he was a famous crab-key hermit for which we get the Silas name-sake). Food overall is pretty average. The steaks are, well, OK. They won't win any awards unless competing against places like Outback. Their grouper reuben is an unusual dish, but, I must say well prepared and tastes better than it sounded. I would order it again as it wasn't too greasy and the kraut/dressing didn't mask the fried grouper flavor. Their cheesy, sausage soup is very good (when hot). Sometimes it doesn't come out at temperature and you need to tell them to reheat it. Oysters were fresh, sweet and tasted 'right from the ocean'. Hopefully this will remain consistent over time. Service is friendly when you walk in (I've only eaten there for lunch or transitioning to dinner). They were willing to go out of their way to let us order off their dinner menu (vs. lunch menu). The wait staff friendly, but as others have written, slow. Even when we were just one of a couple tables for an early lunch, it was still slow. Overall, a good place to eat (didn't find any cleanliness issues as I've seen on other reviews) but it's average overall. I'd go for their soup and oysters and even the grouper reuben. But otherwise, pretty ordinary. 3-stars as I'd go here again but wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

Husband ordered burger med it was well done; called it a 1/2 lb - barely a qtr lb with oversized bun; burnt bacon. My son's chicken fingers over cooked and dry. "Famous" silsa cheezy mushrooms were canned mushrooms in sourcream with a dash of paprika!! Better today as left overs with some real cheddar cheese added!! If your looking solely for steaks, you'd be much better served by 1200 Chophouse a few blocks away. If you want a more rounded menu, have a large party, have kids in tow, want liquor drinks, want a view of some water, etc. then this is a good option. The restaurant is named after a hermit who lived a solitary life on a nearby barrier island, supposedly; not exactly an exciting story when you read it, but hey, it's better than nothing. Anyway, for a restaurant with steak house in the name, it's a very odd collection of mostly marine themed decorations with a diverse menu that includes some steaks. All of the food is decent. I wouldn't say there's any real standouts, but no losers either; good food, good prices, lots of seating (so often little to no wait), convenient to many of the beach resorts. If it's a warm summer month at a warm time of the day, although you're sacrificing the view, I would recommend against sitting at the three tables in the back right corner of the restaurant because that area gets uncomfortably warm. Food-wise, they do have Bearnaise sauce for your steak, and that's a mandatory item if my wife is going to dine somewhere that serves steak. They also know how to cook it pittsburgh style. I'm more of a seafood person and their "Low Country Boil" won't disappoint; it's a collection of various types of seafood in a big bucket. It includes things like crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels, potatos and corn on the cob. It's not on their website for some reason, but is on the menu. Drink-wise, they have reasonable prices and they DO serve liquor drinks, which many restaurants around the beach don't.

While at St. Pete, you need to visit this restaurant. Thursday is their Lobster special and it was delicious! Ate there on Tuesday night and had the petite filet and it too was to die for! Their staff is very attentive and the view is great if your lucky enough to sit by the window! Ask cause if there not busy they can seat you there!

Upon entering, I felt like this place is run by family, a family that does not want you to enter their home. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside in the patio next to the parking lot and she barked at us that it was reserved for a private party. This is completely reasonable that they would allow people to reserve it but when we walked in there were three people outside so it was not obvious that it was reserved or that it was being used by more than a few people. Then we walked inside to many empty tables. We asked for one by the water and we were snapped at once again that those were only for reservations. Okay, their house, their rules but again, there were many empty tables even by the windows leading me to believe that if we asked, we may be seated by a window. We ordered brie and gator as appetizers. The server said how great the gator is there. He brought it with no brie because he forgot that it had sold out. The gator had absolutely no taste except for fried. There could have been any white meat fried on the plate and it could have passed for gator. Then their was the magician. There is a magician that walks from table to table. I was there with three other people and we kept trying to avoid looking up at him as to not have him stop by our table. I had coconut shrimp, which came as dark and dingy as the inside of the restaurant. I gave two stars instead of one as my dining buddies enjoyed their steak more than I did my shrimp. We ordered a to go burger for our friend who stayed home and it took a really long time even though the restaurant was practically empty at that point. Not high on my list to return.

We saw many mixed reviews on Yelp, but because it was right across the street from our resort, we decided to see for ourselves. After eating there, we think that 3 stars is a little generous. I had to send my filet back. I ordered medium rare and it came well done. Both our baked potatoes were undercooked as well as the one that came with my replacement steak. The 2nd steak was cooked properly, was tender and had great flavor. The caesar salad was heavy on the anchovy flavor, had little pieces of Chinese noodles for croutons and the shredded parm was straight from Sam's Club. Strange. My wife's prime rib was cooked properly and tasted good but had some serious stringy tendon issues. They served a nice little mango sorbet in a cute little sugar cone before the main course and that was a pleasant surprise. I got a small black rock in my steak! The server said "are you sure it's not pepper?" and the manager said "I want to take this back to the kitchen." I didn't ask for an adjustment to the bill but none was offered either. You'd think that after overcooking my steak and almost chipping a tooth on a rock, the manager would have offered something!

Visiting for conference and had 7 to sit for dinner. Very accommodating and attentive. Bill was our server and was training a newbie. Both did an outstanding job with answering questions and addressing our needs. The $20 nightly special was a worthwhile choice. I had the blackened grouper sandwich. It was a little on the dry side, but the seasoning was delicious. Others had lobster tail, coconut shrimp, filet and there were no complaints and no leftovers. Black cow, key lime pie and fried cheese cake desserts completed the meal and were thoroughly enjoyed. The decor is a little tacky, in my opinion, but the live music was nice. The magician could be saved for the tables with children.

YES - Silas's Steakhouse gets a full five stars from me for being as good as it gets from start-to-finish! I wanted to go somewhere extra special for my birthday. So I asked my neighbors who've lived in the area longer than I have for a recommendation for a place that was casual dress but "posh" possibilities for food. I called for reservations and spoke to Edward. He was welcoming and helpful when I called. I asked for him when the five of us showed up for our reserved table. I told him what we would want for my special day and Edward did well by us because we were given great water view seating. Service was exceptional - just the right amount of attentiveness and friendliness, too. Each of us REALLY liked what we ordered: We started with coconut shrimp. Superb! For the main course, one of my dining partners ordered Fettucini Alfredo with shrimp. It looked so scrumptious it was hard to refrain from begging for a taste. I should have because there was plenty for her to take home. Another in my party ordered the "just enough" maple glazed salmon which came with two sides. He also got a side salad add on. A yummy bargain at $1.99 if memory serves. Our big guy ordered and was thoroughly satisfied with a GIGANTIC portion - prime rib done to perfection. My supposedly "just enough" ten ounce serving of prime rib was much bigger and also done to perfection, as was the remaining happy diner. The salt baked potatoes were large, hot and served exactly right. To make this celebration even brighter, the wait staff came and sang while serving my dessert of fantastic creme brulee - and that was on the house! The decor is more than interesting - chock full of history and plenty to captivate the eye. Furthermore, our table was greeted by a very friendly, attentive chef. Silas's Steakhouse gets the rare complete rave review. I love prime rib. At $16.99 for the "just enough" portion served au jus +creamy horseradish it's a bargain that I can indulge in more than once in a Blue Moon. I will plan on coming back again and again and again. We went to Silas Dents last year at this time on the first day we were here. And we went back two more times because we loved the place. This year we brought two friends along; my wife had been building up our dinner at Silas Dents for months. What we got was bad service, bad food, and worst of all bad drinks. My wife was so embarrassed. 1) Our Server didn't inform us about any of the specials. And she wasn't attentive at all. 2) We had to mix/spice up our own Bloody Mary's. 3) it seemed like the Prime Rib had been steamed because it was gray and tasteless. My wife had the Stone Crab and got the horseradish instead of the two Prime Rib entree's. In fact when they asked for Au Jus, the waiter returned with "Olive Juice," and she was proud to present it. Omg soooooo good! I had gator bite for the first time and loved it. I order grouper fish stuffed with crab meat and it was amazing. The server Tom was friendly, attentive,informative just awesome. I'm visiting from jersey and so far it's my favorite restaurant in st. Pete beach. Will be visiting again. Thanks guys

Let me start with the good: Service was incredible. We had a server named Eddy who was incredibly accommodating and genuinely interested in serving us. That being said, however, the food was average. The Nachos were homemade, but rather bland. The Pretzel Bread was tasty but cold. The entrees improved our experience, or the most part. My Grouper Sandwhich was delicious; succulent and meaty (not fishy at all, very fresh). The Filet Mignon was very tasty, but a bit overcooked. The King Crab was soft, dull, and stringy (more the fault of the Crab than the chef, as it must travel several thousand miles from Alaska). A highlight: the staff apologized for the crab, and took it off the bill. Overall, a very average restaurant with a great server and spectacular views of the bay.

Food is just ok. Took a long time for food to come out of kitchen but the worst part by far is the live music. It made me want to stab my ears with the steak knife. She was an absolute joke. We could only survive by laughing and trying to figure out which song she was going to destroy next. She literally ruined our meal. She sounded like a bunch of cats dying!!

Steaks thankfully were tasty, but shrimp were dirty and not delectable. Soup and pasta also overseasoned and bland. Friendly manager did stop and get our input. Live music in the bar area Friday night but it wasn't great.

Visiting st Pete beach & decided to try this with my 9 year old. To sum it up, even by a child's standards the food was mediocre at best. I had the shrimp po' boy the shrimp was ok but the thick roll made it taste very dry while the lettuce & tomato tasted old & stale. The flavors just didn't work. My daughter ordered chicken fingers from the kids menu and while the portion size was generous, it didn't taste good enough to box the leftovers. I ordered her a v-strawberry daiquiri as a treat and it was just a slushy icy mess. The service was fine, but the server didn't ask why I only had a couple of bites of my dinner.

I go here pretty often since I get a discount and work across the street. Great lunch, haven't had dinner here yet, but I'm sure good. I get the Buffalo chicken sandwich or soft shell crab sandwich and they are great! I'd say they would be better if had fries with the sandwiches and not have to pay more for them. But I'd say try them out. Pretty good

I'm a very picky person when it comes to restaurants but let me say that I loved everything about this place. From the cute little mason jars that they serve your drinks in to the food and the atmosphere. It really was good. I don't understand the negative reviews at all. The executive chef, Chuck, met us outside and handed out free appetizer cards, you can tell he loves his job, he even checked up on us multiple times throughout the night. The service was great, Kevin was our server and he was awesome - attentive and personable. The Food was FANTASTIC. I was in the mood for fish and chips but they weren't on the menu, when the executive chef, Chuck, came back to I had mentioned that I was looking for it and with no hesitation he said he would make it for me - and they were the best I've ever had. Fresh and tasty. My family also had great food as well. The atmosphere was great as well and the management cared about people's opinions. So that was awesome. I really recommend this place anytime you come into the area.

Food was good, server was good. Room was freezing. Multiple complaints about no heat. It is no warmer than the outside temp which was 56. The manager should have at least come by to try to rectify the situation or provide an explanation. Literally shivering at dinner. When We Left 1 1/2 hours.it was warmer outside.

Silas Dent's was at one time the go-to place on St. Pete Beach for a nice, upscale atmosphere and some of the freshest seafood in the area. That was ten years ago. Now, the seafood is a couple days past prime, and the steaks aren't quite grade A. It's not that the place is bad, it's just mediocre. It's still a nice place and the staff is friendly, but you're not going to have memorable food. A shame, since that's what brings people back.

Service was awful. Went there 9PM on a Friday night, didn't even look busy. Sat outside on patio and only got water served first 15 minutes. Ordered the ahi tuna app and it was a little dry, not that much in portion. Server never came back for drink order, kept saying he'd be right back. Left 9 bucks on the table and left. Table beside us looked mad that the tab was wrong (same server). Will never go back.

Won't be headed back there soon. While the server was awesome, the appetizer took 30 minutes to appear. The "fully loaded potato" arrived uncut, unloaded, blah. My partner's "special," a "crusted Mahi," was obviously pre-frozen and tasted off--with kind of unpleasant results after we got home. The prime rib (ordered medium/rare) showed up dripping with blood and fatty.... Picturesque place, but atmosphere doesn't make up for mediocre food.

Our first jaunt of the year to St. Pete Beach and my travel companion and I wanted to try somewhere different. What a better way to find a new and exciting place than walking to the liquor store a few blocks down the road and keeping our eyes pealed for a place we hadn't visited before. I really don't understand why the reviews for Silas are not more positive. I had the coconut crusted grouper and my friend had the sesame salmon. Both dishes were excellent. The atmosphere was cool and relaxed. Our waiter, JP, was adorbs. We will certainly pay another visit to Silas's when we are back in St. Pete Beach!

Based on other Yelp reviews, I was expecting: 1. dirty 2. dated 3. mediocre service 4. great pretzel bread 5. slightly too expensive for what it is 6. great view of the water #1: our table and area was not dirty at all #2: not really -- felt similar to outback locations #3: our server and the one helping the next table over were both very attentive and helpful #4: "meh" - my family of four was offered 2 sticks of the pretzel bread. they are about the size of a large breadstick, hardly enough for 4 people to split. no more was offered. #5: slightly too expensive for what it was - check that. i'd say 10% too high. #6: we requested a good view during reservation and got it My wife's salmon was good, and I had the large shrimp platter, very good though at $18.50 with fries, again, slightly overpriced. Had we gone with the special of the day of course, my wife and I could have both had fajita entrees for a total of $14.99. So in all fairness, they do have some cheaper grub. Food was very good, and the view can be excellent. If you've never been, it's worth at least one visit.

I have lived in the area a few years. Until recently, the last 3 visits, the place was Awesome and I took everyone who came to eat there. No mas! Last night was the worst in both food and service. I said ahh maybe just a bad night last 2 times. 3 bad meals in a row there is no next time. Must have new Managers. The prices have moved up and the quality and prep AWFUL! The 9 oz sirloin was WELLLLLLL done and even charred on one side. Cooked so long iit shrunk to the size wide of silver dollar. Veggies soggy...Pretzel bread...nuff said! Outback here I come!

I am surprised to read the negative reviews because every time I'm in Florida, I make it a point to go to Silas even if I'm in Orlando or Fort Myers. This is just about the best steak I've ever ate in my entire life ! Cuts with a fork, medium-well and still juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The decor is quite original with antiques on the walls and all over the restaurant, including an old washer that reminds me of the one at my grandmother's summer house. We were lucky enough several times to be seated near the water and it's really nice. The menu is more than original, makes one think he's in New Orlean's ! With "taters" galore ! Awesome restaurant at a reasonable price. You have to give it a try ! Awesome !
